Big, bold careers in a small town

When E. & J. Gallo Winery (Gallo) invited us to develop a new employer brand and EVP, our curiosity was piqued. Why would one of the world’s most recognized brand wine labels need to revamp its recruitment efforts? Certainly, attracting and retaining industry-best talent couldn’t be too difficult. Or could it?

As we quickly learned, many of Gallo’s technology and engineering operations are in in its Modesto, CA headquarters. Located in the heart of California’s central valley, this small town is a haven for some but not all. To attract high-level IT and engineering talent away from cities and Silicon Valley required turning a perceived negative into a real positive.

We also had to bring to life through unique storytelling why Gallo is recognized by a Glassdoor as one of the best places to work.


The EVP and employer brand made an almost-immediate positive impact. The videos we created proved to engage site visitors that, in turn, improved site metrics on nearly every count. Gallo’s hard-to-fill engineering and IT positions were not so hard to fill any more. It seems as if made Modesto an ideal location for a geographic and career move!
